- Okay, so throughout this whole program we've really reiterated to you the importance of having a training partner and, make no mistake, I really believe that is the best way to practice these life-saving skills and these preventative skills on how to defend yourself in any situation. But there may be a situation, or a time, when a training partner is just not available. Maybe, the schedules didn't work out, who knows, you've got extra time on your hands. These heavy bags are available at most any sporting goods stores. I would suggest one that is a longer one, there are free-standing heavy bags, there are actually, depending on what your budget is, there are punching bags that are more anatomically correct. They actually look like a boxer or a human being. I don't think those are a bad idea either. Check it out. You can look at 'em and you can make your own choice. But the one thing that I'm trying to show you here is that there are some essential skills, if you think about the anatomical parts of our body that we've used, as instruments of neutralization of a threat, and I want to show you how you can practice if you don't have a training partner available. So, one example that was the grab from behind. Here you've got the heavy bag, you can pretend that they are the perpetrator. Head strike to the back. Elbow strike, elbow strike. Knee strike. If you're trying to accomplish a palm strike, to the face, you can even put pieces of tape if you wanted to. Draw a little face on here so that you have a target. Palm strike to the soft tissue. A knee strike to the groin. Be careful, sometimes there are sharp things on the bottom of the bags, I wouldn't suggest doing any kicks to the bottom of the bag. It can injure your foot. But this is definitely an alternative for you to develop some strengthening of your core, strengthening of your kicks, your knee strikes, your palm strikes, your head butts, all of the different things. Again, I can't caution you enough to be careful. Stretch out, warm up, work out. It's never a bad idea to work on your own physical fitness, that's only an advantage to you defending an aggressor, but this is an alternative, if you have no other options, but again, let me reiterate, I do suggest that you have a real human partner that can be more dynamic to help you become more and more comfortable in these uncomfortable situations.

You can practice even if you don't have a training partner available. Get comfortable with your body motion. Again, be careful. You can hurt yourself in training. Take it slow, get your technique down first. Start pivoting on the tops of your toes. Get in shape, and prepare yourself to be able to escape these assault situations.
