Nationally Accredited CPR Recertification Courses

It’s a little-known fact that there is no one, national approving body for CPR recertification and training. That means you can get your renewal from any accredited training organization, including ProTrainings, the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.

However, students who have tried other recertification organizations prefer us for our versatility, accessibility, and ease of certification and renewal. At ProTrainings, we provide legitimate, quality training that adheres to the ILCOR/AHA guidelines and is approved by numerous third-party accrediting organizations and 99% of employers.

What’s in a CPR Recertification Course?

A CPR recertification course is very similar to a CPR course. When renewing your CPR skills, you’ll have access to all of the same course materials; however, you will not be required to complete the training modules before taking your final exam.

Because of this, many students find the online CPR renewal process much faster than their original CPR training.

A CPR recertification course will also update you on any changes that have been made to CPR best practices and offer you the chance to refresh your knowledge and skills in order to pass your final exam.

This Course Includes:

  • Follows AHA guidelines
  • 4.0 CME/CE credits
  • Certification card available to purchase for $59.95
  • 24/7 on-demand video
  • Access on mobile
  • Weekly refresher video
  • Expiration reminder
  • Student manual

Who Needs a CPR Recertification Course?

Anyone who is required to have an active, valid CPR certification needs a CPR recertification course.

According to the American Heart Association’s Resuscitation Quality Improvement sector, retention of CPR skills declines significantly after 2 years – even for professionals who work in healthcare and use their skills in their line of work.

As a result, the AHA recommends that individuals who are required to be CPR certified also renew their certification every 2 years. Most employers follow the AHA guidelines and require their employees to renew their certifications accordingly.

If your employer requires you to renew your CPR training every 2 years, you will need a CPR recertification course.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does CPR certification last?

Most CPR programs and CPR certifications last two years and need to be renewed before they expire to avoid needing to retake the entire training.

Some employers may have more stringent renewal requirements, so be sure to check with your employer to confirm that you can follow the two-year rule.

At ProTrainings, we make the CPR renewal process as efficient as possible by reminding you of when you need to renew and offering your CPR recertification options right in your student portal.

What happens if my CPR certificate expires?

If you do not renew your CPR certificate before the 2-year window ends, your certification will “lapse.” If your certification lapses, what happens next depends on your specific situation.

In some cases, employers do not allow someone with a lapsed certificate to work, which can result in unpaid leave until you get your CPR certification renewed.

In addition, if your professional license requires a valid certificate, you run the risk of your license lapsing and will then need to work with your licensing board to correct the situation.

In other cases, you may only receive a warning and a timeframe to get a CPR renewal before more severe consequences follow.

Lastly, if your employer only loosely enforces CPR certification or you aren’t required to hold a certificate at all, there may be no consequences whatsoever from an expired certificate.

When it comes to renewing your CPR certification after lapsing you may need to take a longer course in order to recertify.  With ProTrainings, there is no penalty or longer course needed if your current CPR certificate has lapsed.

What is the difference between a first time CPR course and a renewal CPR course?

When you complete your initial CPR training, it’s highly recommended that you watch all videos and complete all of the training modules. Then, you will be asked to take an exam before you can receive your CPR certification.

In addition, it’s highly recommended that you complete a blended course to get the hands-on practice and skills training needed to feel comfortable performing CPR.

When you complete your CPR renewal, you will have access to all of the same course materials, but it’s much more common to move on to your exam right away, if you choose to do so.

In order to earn your CPR recertification, you need to pass your exam with a score of 80% or better.

Can I get my CPR recertification online?

Yes! If you’re considering renewing your CPR certification, then you’ve already taken a CPR course at least once. Online CPR renewal is a great option for those who need to refresh their knowledge and skill set, and who want a convenient way to access high-quality training for regular renewal.

Because the AHA recommends renewing your CPR certification every two years, many of our students find that online CPR training is an efficient way to brush up on skills that need a refresher and to skip over lessons that are familiar and well-remembered.

In addition to our online CPR training, you also have the option to complete a blended training to get the hands-on skills needed to feel comfortable and confident performing CPR.
