Adult CPR & First Aid Certification

In the Adult CPR & First Aid Certification course with ProTrainings, you’ll learn life-saving and emergency preparedness skills. 

The program will teach you how to handle life-threatening events such as: 

You’ll also learn how to perform CPR on an adult and how to use an automated external defibrillator (also known as an AED) on an adult.  

In addition to adult CPR, first aid, and AED skills, you’ll also learn important prevention information, such as pool safety, childproofing the home, poison control, abuse and neglect awareness, and how to reduce risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure or handle an exposure incident.

Good question! Adult CPR and first aid online certification programs often go hand-in-hand, but it’s important to understand the difference and set your learning expectations accordingly. 

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and it is the primary skill recommended in the case of stroke, heart attack, or drowning. 

First aid, on the other hand, applies to tending to wounds or injuries. Learning first aid prepares you to handle situations such as choking, concussion, breaks and sprains, and bleeding.

It’s not uncommon for someone who needs CPR to also need first aid; and vice versa. 

In a sense, adult CPR and first aid are two sides of the same coin. They complement each other and can help you be more effective in the event that you do need to help someone who is in need.

For the purposes of offering first aid and CPR, someone is considered an “adult” victim when they are about 12 years and older. 

We use the term “about” because the distinction comes down to whether the individual is at puberty age, which can range from the age of 11 to 14. 

When looking at victim ages from the perspective of a CPR provider, you’ll notice a lot of overlap. CPR and first aid training programs are often categorized as “infant,” “child,” or “adult.” 

The term “infant” can refer to someone who is age 2 or younger. The term “child” can refer to someone who is age 1 or older, and up to puberty age. An “adult” is typically someone who is at puberty age or older.

Yes! By completing the Adult CPR & First Aid certification program with ProTrainings, you’ll also learn how to use an automated external defibrillator – also known as an AED – on an adult. 
 
Other programs differ, so be sure to read through the course curriculum before choosing a first aid, CPR & AED certification that’s right for you. 
 
Because this program is specific to adults, you will not learn specific skills needed to use an AED on a child or infant. It’s important that you do not generalize the information you learn in the Adult AED training to use on children and infants. Children and infants have very different medical needs and must be treated differently from adults. 
 
Be sure to check with your employer to find out if Adult CPR, AED & First Aid training will meet their requirements or if you need to also receive training for handling emergencies involving children or infants.
