"Come with me right now!" "No! No! Ahhh!" So in this situation the aggressor has reached their arms around the victim, they're going to lift us up off the ground. This gives the victim this feeling of "I can't control where I'm going." The aggressor might be able to actually carry us off. But more importantly, they might be able to actually throw the victim to the ground and that is very very damaging, it could knock us out. So there's some things that we can do to neutralize this threat and then be able to get released, finish the neutralization of the threat and then retreat to safety. Let's show you how that works. So here, the perpetrator comes around, they have bear hugged and lifted me off the ground. Watch my legs. I vine my legs so that they can't throw me, and immediately, watch this, my anatomical weapon, my head, headbutt to the face. If they haven't dropped me yet, headbutt to the face. They drop. I get just enough distance. Lookit. Step out. Hammer fist. Look at this strike efficiency, it's right here. Hammer fist to the groin. Drops my opponent over. Now watch. Knee strike to the face. Neutralizes the threat. Retreat to safety. So now let's break down the practice at home with this. In this case, obviously your training partner has his pads. It's not essential that they lift you off the ground for you to practice the essential skills of where you need to focus your strikes. So in this case my training partner has one arm around to simulate the bear hug, and puts the focus mitt right behind my head. So here we're going to be able to do the headbutt to the back, as I step forward and make some space because of the headbutt. I do a hammer fist strike to the groin, which is now the thai pad. Turning efficiently, grabbing the back of the head, or the shoulders with my hands, I bring a knee strike into the thai pad. One more time, simulated bear hug, even though he's not lifting me off the ground, it's the same principle. There's a headbutt to the back. Gives me space. Hammer strike to the thai pad. Turn. Knee strike into the pad. Practice that over and over until you become extremely comfortable with it.
This video shows what to do when an aggressor grabs you from behind and lifts your feet off the ground. Swing your feet back in between his legs so he can't throw you. Give head butts to the face which will cause the aggressor to drop you. Give hammer fist to the groin, a knee strike to the face, and escape.
