Now we're going to show how to do a skill evaluation for the conscious adult choking scenario. So what we're going to do is use the manikin for this scenario. We can use an individual or a real person, but it's better to use the manikin because that way, the person can actually practice doing the abdominal thrusts on the manikin. We definitely, if you use a real person, do not let the person do actual abdominal thrusts. That will be pretty painful for the individual. But here we go. We have the manikin. So I'm going to say Genevieve, here's your person here. We're going to say that you're in a restaurant and you're eating your lunch. And a person at the table next to you stands up, grabs his throat and starts, kind of looks like he's gagging. What would you do? speaker 2: I'm going to make sure the scene is safe and then ask him, sir, are you choking? speaker 1: And he can't cough. He can't speak. He can't breathe. speaker 2: Okay. I'm going to help you. I'm going to put my foot, have him stand up and put my foot right between his feet and... speaker 1: Yes, exactly. And who would you want if you had an emergency? He's definitely choking. Would you want somebody else on the way there? speaker 2: Yes, I would say to his friends go call 911. Get your phone out. And then I'm going to do my abdominal thrusts. speaker 1: Okay, so you want to find, and that was good. You kind of found the belly button with his hand. So the idea is you find that belly button and you go above the belly button area, good. Right above the navel, super. Good. Forceful, upward thrusts into the abdomen, just like that. Excellent. How many times are you going to do that? speaker 2: I'd keep it up until he gets the object out or goes unconscious. speaker 1: Okay, great. And if he went unconscious, what would you do? speaker 2: Hopefully catch him and then carefully get him on the ground. speaker 1: Right, exactly. Lower him to the ground safely and then we'd go from there. So in this scenario, she did a great job. She found the right placement. She had her foot in between the person's leg. She did, I had to kind of reminder of calling 911. But she knew what to do there. So I'm confident she understands that. She was doing great thrusts, keeping her elbows out, going up into the abdomen. So she did all the right things and she knew what to do. So in this scenario, this would definitely be a pass for the conscious choking skills for the adult.
