Now we're gonna cover how to conduct a skill evaluation. And this is the adult CPR situation for the lay rescuer. So I have Genevieve. She's our student that has come today to do the skills. And we're gonna show you what to do. First of all, I have my skill evaluation sheets in front of me. The practice sheets help me as the skill evaluater or instructor to stay on task and to help her especially if she's getting off task, if she's doing the wrong sequence of skills. It helps me to remember where I'm at so that I don't get confused and her get confused. There's nothing worse than both having a confused instructor and a confused student. So we wanna make sure we have this in front of us to help us as a tool. So Genevieve, what were gonna do is we're gonna go through the adult CPR scenario for the lay rescuer. So I'm gonna prompt you through the skills. And don't worry, don't be nervous. If we need help on things, that's okay. Part of this is meant to be practice as well. And so we're gonna help you with that and make sure that you know how to do the skills properly. So first of all, we're gonna say that you are out walking in the park one day and you saw a person collapse on the sidewalk. What's the first thing you're gonna do? Speaker 2: I'm gonna look to see if there's anything hazardous. Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna say the scene is safe. There's nothing that looks like it's gonna hurt you. So go ahead, you've now approached. You're now next to the person. Now what're gonna do? Speaker 2: I'm gonna check him to see, sir are you okay? Sir? Speaker 1: Okay, he doesn't seem to be responding. The chest is not moving. He's not breathing, it doesn't look like. Now what? Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna go into my compressions here. Speaker 1: So before you start compressions, is there something you might want to do or somebody you might wanna have there? Speaker 2: Yes, I'd find someone. Go call 911, get an AED, and then come help me. Speaker 1: Excellent, okay. Speaker 2: And then I'd get started. Speaker 1: Go for it. So now your hand position, I notice, is kind of tilted. Remember we want your hands so that your heel of your hand is directly on the breastbone of the chest like that. There we go, just above the area where the ribs come together so on the lower third of the sternum. Go ahead, lean over the top of the person keeping your elbows straight. Go for it. Excellent, that's the way. Great, and we're gonna do those compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute. And we're going at least 2 to 2.4 inches deep. Those compressions are looking really good. Speaker 2: 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29,30. And then go for a breath. Speaker 1: Good, you're pinching the nose I see. You opened the airway well. Great, air goes in fine. Chest is rising. Okay, right back to it. Great, good compressions. So again, as we work with our student, we wanna help that student if they need help. We would practice with them and then we would go ahead and do the evaluation again or do the skill another time or two depending on the student's comfort-ability with the skill. So, she's doing very well. She's doing great compressions. She's getting the breath in. And the idea is you wanna see the student do the skill a minimum of 2 full cycles of 30 compressions to 2 breaths. And she's done that. She's done very well with that. So from what I'm seeing and what she's done, this would be an acceptable skill and she's passed this skill evaluation for the adult CPR lay rescuer scenario.
