In this video, we’re going to talk about proper setup of the manikin equipment, so specifically, I’m using the adult manikin, and we want to talk about how to replace the lung system, and this would be the Simulaids brand type of manikin. There are many different brands of manikins, so you need to know for your specific manikins how to put the lungs in properly. Now when we do these skills, it’s very important to have a lung system in the manikin so that when the person or the student actually gives breaths, we do see the actual chest rise and fall, so we want to make sure that that is occurring each time when we’re practicing, but in this scenario, let’s just show you how to do the actual lung system, again for the Stimulaids manikin. So the lung system, it’s actually a full lung, and it also becomes the face shield of the manikin, and the way to replace this properly is you want to find the end that is sealed of the lung, so this is the sealed end of the lung, and we’re going to roll that up into a fairly small roll, so go ahead and roll it up like that. So again, I had the sealed end of the lung, and I rolled it up into a fairly small roll, and what we’re going to do is we’re going to set the manikin up, and you push straight down into the airway, just like this. By keeping the head up like that, you can find the lung comes right out the back, just like that, and so what we do is we pull on it, so we pull it so that there’s about three inches of the lung, which would be the face shield, sticking outside of the mouth, and the rest comes out the back just like this. What we want to do is we want to go ahead and make sure to flatten that out so it’s not so bunched up, and then we’re going to go ahead and put it underneath the rubber band, and this way we now have as lung sitting in the manikin properly. It is ready to go, ready to use for the student, and when the student uses the manikin, what they’re going to do is this is the open end; they’re going to open this up, and this becomes the face shield for the student to use, so that way each time you do a skill, each student, you’re going to replace the lung. The student has a fresh lung, a fresh face shield every time. Now in the same type of way, we’re going to get the infant manikin set up as well, so let me take the adult and set him off to the side here for a moment, and I’ll take our infant manikin, and the same idea; we have the lung again in this type of manikin. This again is a Simulaids brand infant, and in this one we have just a little different system. The manikin actually has a chest plate that the infant lung sits in, so we’re going to take the old one out just like that, and we’re going to go ahead and take this and properly dispose of that lung, and then we’re going to go ahead and take the new lung, and again we’re going to find the sealed end of that lung and just roll it like we did the adult. We’re just going to roll it, and we take the sealed end, and this time we’re going to put it into the airway by lifting up the head, and so this one, it goes in the front, so just like this. We’re going to leave enough so that the face shield is sticking out, and we’re going to put it into the front, right into the chest of the manikin, just like this. So we’re going to snap the chest back together; you’ll find the snaps along the sides here. Just going to snap it back together, just like that. There we go. We’ll get that one on. Good. And there the manikin is ready to go, and when the student’s ready, they unfold the open end over the mouth, and there again, that becomes the face shield for the student.
