I'm checking the scene for safety for both rescuer and for AED use and the scene is safe. "Child, are you alright, can you hear me? Child, can you hear me?" The child does not respond. "You in the plaid shirt, go call 911 and come back, I might need your help." Otherwise, I'd have to activate EMS or call a code. Now I'm gonna assess for normal breathing, and I'm gonna check for a carotid pulse for no more than 10 seconds. This child is not breathing normally, unresponsive, and has no pulse. I have an Automated External Defibrillator here with me so I'm gonna go ahead and begin that protocol now. Turning it on. [AED begins speaking instructions] Wipe down the chest of any moisture, if possible. I'm gonna go ahead and attach the pads. Both pads are now applied. Plugging in, clear. [AED continues] Clear. [Begins chest compressions, follows AED's instructions] In real life, if a pad was coming off, I would re-adhere it and then stop touching the patient. Clear. I would continue my CPR and I would do this until EMS arrives or my patient revives.
