(gentle, melodic music) Next let's talk about fitness. Fitness is probably the most important compensating act we can do proactively to help protect us while lifting and moving objects or persons. See, fitness is something that allows us to strengthen our compensatory muscles so that when we are in a position where we actually have to lift without proper ergonomics, and those situations will arise, we have muscles that have been exercised and toned to compensate to help us lift objects and persons properly without suffering long-term injury. There are so many different types of work places and so many types of duties that a person can be in. Some are not very active at all. They may not have to lift things often. Maybe it's like a lorry driver where they're sitting for a long period of time. And then they stop. They have product that they have to unload. They have to loosen up a trailer. And in those cases, they then go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour. They're going to be doing things that literally bring them from a cold, cramped, sitting position and then require them to actually perform what we call workplace athleticism and they're not ready to do it. This is what's leading to those soft tissue injuries that are causing so much trouble in personal lives and in professional lives. The fitness is going to be important, and let's get right into it now. One of the things that we need to remember is that excess body weight is going to cause us something called accumulative stress disorders. The cumulative stress comes from being pulled out of a proper posture due to excess weight from bellies or things that actually extend out over our bodies and put stresses on our lower lumbar. When we have good fitness in our lives, we're gonna be burning more calories, keeping excess weight off, and strengthening muscles, tendons, ligaments, to help us to live healthy, normal lives. I'd like to take a moment to show you just a couple of the different exercises that can actually help you to stay strong so that you can compensate when you move objects and persons. Now remember, whether it's aerobic exercising or anaerobic exercising, resistance training with weights, free weights, things that help us to build muscle, or exercising through jogging, running, bicycling, possibly swimming, something that helps to build our cardiovascular system, it's all good, and it all helps us to be able to do our job with minimization of injuries.
Fitness is one of the most important compensating function that will help us to lift properly and reduce the risk of injury. Excess body weight causes cumulative stress disorder from the added workload on the body. Starting a regular routine of exercise that will build muscle, control weight, and support good cardiovascular function will help you to perform you job duties better and minimize injuries.
