In any ergonomics program it's important to know how to recognize signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders. You also need to know how to report an MSD sign and symptom. And the importance of that early reporting. So you may be asking yourself, well okay well what is an MSD? An MSD, musculoskeletal disorder is an injury and a disorder of the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage, and spinal disks. Exposure to physical work activities and conditions that involve risk factors may cause or contribute to MSDs. Now remember that MSDs do not include injuries that are more acute or traumatic in nature like by slips, trips, falls, crushing injuries, or other similar accidents. Here's some examples of MSDs. They would include carpal tunnel syndrome, de Quervain's disease, rotator cuff syndrome, trigger finger, tarsal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, epicondylitis, tendonitis, Raynaud's phenomenon, carpet layer's knee, herniated spinal disk, and everybody knows this one. Low back pain.
