(medical machine beeping) Now in this move, this is really called the two-person non-urgent chair transfer. We're going to be actually utilizing not just two people, but three to be able to do this safely. This is a better move for lifting a person up, out of a chair in order to bring another chair in its place. And in this case, it's going to be from a dining room table rigid chair to a more comfortable reclining or a rolling, cushioned chair so that this person can relax after meal. This could also be utilized if we needed to put a portable toilet in place or a wheelchair. The goal here is to really make sure that the person that's going to be assisting is really, fairly close in size so that is to not have the person leaning one way and to put unnecessary stress on the assisting lifting person. Our third person is going to come in and listen to our requests so as to take the old chair out and bring the new chair in. This move still can put a lot of stress on our backs, our lumbar area, our mid-thoracic. And perfect ergonomic techniques are gonna be essential to this. This person is also conscious, so we're going to educate them as to what we're doing. Sir, my name is Roy, we're gonna help move this chair out and bring another chair in so it's more comfortable. Does that sound like a good idea. - Sounds great. - Okay, let's put your arms behind our backs. Our arms that go behind his back are going under his arms. We're now gonna reach under his legs. Now's the time when we're going to communicate on my count to three Jody, we're going to lift straight up using good back mechanics. One, Two, Three. Good ahead Keith, remove that chair. Now I can move my legs a little bit further in so that we're more balanced until the next chair comes in. Ready, Keith? - Yup, ready now. - Is it all the way under? - Yes - Jody keep your back straight. One, two, three. Comfortable sir? Now in this segment you may have noticed how I communicated with the person who is helping me with this lift assist. It's always a good idea to communicate between those personnel who are helping to lift the person. Don't fear it, you need to help encourage each other so as to be able to use proper body mechanics and good ergonomics. Its what's going to add up to a long, happy, and healthy life.
This move is best for lifting a person out of a chair and placing him or her into another seat, such as a portable toilet, wheelchair, or more comfortable chair.
