While most of us consider our home a place of safety, the products we use every day and the communities in which we live can be causing our health to suffer. Common everyday items and medications can prove toxic to ourselves, our families, our pets, and the environment. In addition, the way our house and neighborhood is designed and built can either improve or degrade our health and the health of our communities. By knowing how our home and neighborhood can impact our health and knowing what is in our homes, we can empower ourselves to improve our health as well as the health of our families and our community.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to do the following:

  • Identify common household toxins.
  • Describe the effects of toxins in health and methods of assessing toxin exposure.
  • Describe ways to safely handle and dispose of household hazardous waste, including pharmaceutical waste.
  • List ways of reducing hazardous waste in the home.
  • Describe how community design impacts health.
  • Identify ways to become an environmental advocate.

Complete the course post exam (CE Test) with a score of 80% or greater. Complete all fields of the course evaluation form. Certificate of Completion is provided once the course post exam is passed per criteria above.
