Certificate in Perinatal Issues
The Certificate in Perinatal Issues is a multidisciplinary educational experience designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who provide care and support for childbearing women, newborns, and families. The demand for knowledgeable providers to meet the needs of this population is dramatically increasing; new jobs are being developed and new services created. Health professionals who work with this population will need continuing professional education to gain a broad understanding of this specialized area of care and to stay current with emerging trends.
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to do the following:
- Explain differences in the childbirth practices, beliefs, and traditions of various cultures.
- Discuss issues of global perinatal health, including malnutrition, gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, and methods for improving the global health of women and children.
- Discuss the health impacts of diabetes in pregnancy.
- Explain the clinical issues surrounding hyperemesis gravidarum.
- Discuss the recognition, treatment, and prevention of pediatric abusive head trauma (shaken baby syndrome).
- Discuss the wide-ranging impacts of postpartum depression on the mother, infant, and family.
- Explain the clinical issues surrounding the detection, treatment, and prevention of neonatal Group B streptococcal infection.
Complete the course post exam (CE Test) with a score of 80% or greater. Complete all fields of the course evaluation form. Certificate of Completion is provided once all of the courses within the certificate program have been successfully completed per criteria above.
