Now let's talk about those moves that are best accomplished when it's a non-urgent or non-emergency time frame. It's always best to do lifts of people or even objects that are very heavy or awkwardly shaped with a second, third, or even a fourth person. In this case I have my partner here who is obviously able to help me in this case. And we're going to demonstrate now a two person person floor lift. First thing we're gonna have is a person at the head of this individual who's on the floor. That's gonna be the person who calls the lift. That's a really vital piece here. In ergonomic lifting of two people it has to be coordinated. The person at the head of the individual always calls the lift so that we exert our energy at the same time. We're not lopsided. It's gonna be safest for this individual on the floor, safest for those of us who are lifting. So Jodi why don't you go ahead and get the person prepared by getting him in a semi-sitting position. You'll notice that he is now going to reach under the arms grabbing opposite wrists to get a secure and now he's going to position himself, take the time, again this is non-emergency. So time is on our side and he is going to get himself in a good ergonomic position. Back as straight as can be, head looking up at the ceiling so as to keep the back and spine in line. Now myself being the second lifter I'm gonna bring this person's legs together, grab the ankles and support the knees. Remember now. We both are in really poor lifting positions. This'll be the most exertion on us throughout this whole lift. This is the time to stretch before we get into this position and be in good fit shape. So Jodi go ahead and call the lift. - You ready? One, two, three. - Now the person is up and we're able to walk this person to a stretcher and to safety.
It is always best to lift people with the help of a second person. Lifting a person from the floor requires coordination and good communication to avoid injuries.
