  • Dental Hygienists in Nevada are required to have a Healthcare Provider level CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners requires Healthcare Provider level BLS/CPR, AED with practical skills component.
  • Most employers will require a Healthcare Provider level BLS/CPR.
  • Dental Hygienists are able to claim continuing education credits for BLS/CPR Certification from these nationally recognized qualifying agencies;
 

Course Content


Dental Hygienists in Nevada need a Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification at the Healthcare Provider level. Required skills include; Adult, child and infant CPR, AED, and use of a bag-valve-mask. Some Dental Hygienists may also need a First Aid course as well, but this is determined by the employer.



Delivery Method

Dental Hygienists in Nevada are required to do the Basic Life Support level of CPR certification for Healthcare Providers that usually includes a practical skills evaluation through a classroom or blended training process. 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer or institution and is not always accepted by the state licensing department or for continuing education credits.

Some employers may require a specific type of training or may leave it up to the state’s requirement. If you are not certain of your employer's requirement, make sure to check with them about both the training type and the required course content.

The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners requires Healthcare Provider level CPR certification with practical skills component that is accepted by the Board, AGD/PACE, or ADA/CERP approved.

Board Statement:

NAC 631.173  Continuing education: Required hours; types of courses and activities; approval of provider or instructor.
3. In addition to the hours of instruction prescribed in subsections 1 and 2, each dentist and dental hygienist must maintain current certification in administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation or another medically acceptable means of maintaining basic bodily functions which support life. Any course taken pursuant to this subsection must be taught by a certified instructor.
4. Any provider of or instructor for a course in continuing education relating to the practice of dentistry or dental hygiene which meets the requirements of this section must be approved by the Board, unless the course is for training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation or is approved by:

  1. The American Dental Association or the societies which are a part of it;
  2. The American Dental Hygienists’ Association or the societies which are a part of it;
  3. The Academy of General Dentistry;
  4. Any nationally recognized association of dental or medical specialists;
