CPR Certification Requirements for Daycare & Childcare in North Carolina


North Carolina is a unique and special state, and it’s one of the states that has recently seen a surge of support for online-based CPR certification in recent years.

  • Child Care Providers in North Carolina are required to have an Adult, Child, and Infant Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
  • The North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education requires a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid for licensing. Required training should include; Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • A practical (hands-on) skills component is required by the state or by your Child Care facility to maintain employment.
  • Most employers will require a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for all ages.

Child Care Providers in North Carolina usually need a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED certification. Required training should include; Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED and First Aid with a practical (hands-on) skills component.



Delivery Method

Child Care Providers in North Carolina are required to maintain Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED and First Aid that includes a practical skills evaluation through in person or blended training process. A 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer. If you are not certain of your employer's requirement, make sure to check with them about both the training type and the required course content.

The North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education requires Child Care Providers to maintain a certification in Adult, Child, and Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED and First Aid with a practical (hands-on) skills component that is accepted by the board. Board Statement:

10A NCAC 09 .1102 HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
(c) All staff who provide direct care or accompany children when they are off premises shall successfully complete certification in First Aid appropriate to the ages of children in care.
(d) All staff who provide direct care or accompany children when they are off premises shall successfully complete certification in a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course appropriate to the ages of children in care. At all times when children are in care one staff member present must have successfully completed CPR training.
