CPR Class Content Requirements for Montana Dentists

Dentists, Dental Assistants, and Denturists in Montana usually need a Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification at the Healthcare Provider level. Required skills include; Adult, child and infant CPR, AED, and use of a bag-valve-mask. Some Dentists may also need a First Aid course as well, but this is determined by the employer.

24.138.403 MANDATORY CERTIFICATION

  1. All licensed active status dentists, dental hygienists, and denturists shall possess a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), or pediatric advanced life support (PALS) card.
  2. Licensees shall maintain a current CPR, ACLS, or PALS card on the premises and provide a copy to the board upon request.
  3. Licensees shall affirm the expiration date of the CPR, ACLS, or PALS card on the renewal. The board may audit a licensee for compliance of a current CPR, ACLS, or PALS card. An active licensee who practices without a current CPR, ACLS, or PALS card may be subject to disciplinary action by the board.
  4. Internet CPR, ACLS, or PALS courses will be accepted if a hands-on evaluation of clinical competency is also included.

Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) CPR Certification Requirements

Board Statement

Recertification Requirements:
1. Earn CDE credits every year. Earning Continuing Dental Education (CDE) credits is one requirement for DANB recertification. There are a variety of ways to earn CDE credits, including in-person and online.
2. Hold current DANB-accepted CPR certification. All DANB certificants must have current CPR, BLS or ACLS certification from a DANB-accepted provider.

Dentists, Dental Assistants, and Denturists in Montana are required to do the Basic Life Support level of CPR certification for Healthcare Providers that includes a practical skills evaluation through a classroom or blended training process. 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer or institution and is not accepted by the state licensing department or for continuing education credits.
