How Generative AI Will Supercharge Continuing Education

ProTrainings How AI Technology Can Supercharge CPR Instruction

Innovative developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are revolutionizing how we teach and learn. Businesses within the continuing education industry increasingly seek to harness the power of generative AI — including large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI’s ChatGPT — to augment training materials and provide personalized learning experiences.

It’s an exciting evolution in education that harnesses the best of human expertise and cutting-edge technology for the benefit of every learner. But how will these technologies impact the learning and teaching experiences in practical applications?

At ProTrainings, we’re committed to making the training process as easy and effective as possible for everyone. We’ve been exploring the latest advancements in AI technology and have some exciting insights on what these tools could mean for the continuing education industry.

The latest LLM models give ed tech companies the power to offer students a personal learning experience that is far more scalable than what traditional instruction can offer. Let’s explore how AI can enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of learning.

Training Personal AI “Tutors”

Many people are familiar with generative AI tools like ChatGPT and their ability to create and summarize information. In the context of improving student learning outcomes, however, we’re less concerned with generating content and more interested in the technology’s potential to deliver information in innovative ways that are tailored to the individual learner.

Imagine being a student and having a personalized, AI-driven tutor at your fingertips, available 24/7 to provide individualized support and guidance. This intelligent AI assistant, trained extensively on expert-developed course materials, could engage students in dynamic, interactive lessons tailored to their unique learning needs and pace.

Imagine never having to wait for a teacher’s help or spend money on pricey tutoring sessions. With an AI tutor, students can get the support they need anytime, whether it’s to tackle a tricky concept or explore a topic they’re passionate about. It’s like having a personal tutor on standby, ready whenever you are.

With an AI tutor by their side, students can really take control of their learning, building confidence along the way. They’ll get instant access to expert advice and personalized feedback, helping them grasp material faster and reach their full potential. It’s all about putting the power in the students’ hands and letting them own their learning experience.

In a classroom, whether it’s virtual or in-person, students sometimes hold back from asking questions because they’re worried about feeling embarrassed. But with an AI tutor, they can ask as many questions as they want without any fear of judgment or feeling like they’re asking “dumb” questions. It creates a safe space where students can learn at their own pace and get the help they need.

The tool could also start with a quick pre-assessment to figure out what students already know, setting up a personalized starting point for their learning. From there, it would tailor the training to focus on their specific strengths and weaknesses and adapt to each student’s learning style, breaking down concepts in a way that makes the most sense to them. It’s all about creating a learning experience that fits the student perfectly.

Finally, an AI tutor could bring the training material to life by creating practical role-play scenarios that are customized to the student’s job or work environment. Large language models (LLMs), which are trained on massive and diverse datasets, are great at role-playing. They can offer personalized experiences, giving students plenty of chances to apply what they’ve learned to real-world situations. It’s a hands-on way to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Increasing Scalability & Accessibility

When building our CPR and first aid training programs, ProTrainings’ top priority is delivering lifesaving information in a way that allows people to easily understand, retain, and apply that information when the need arises. This means providing flexible options so each student can train at their own pace and in the environment that is most conducive to their learning.

That’s why we’re so excited about the potential for AI technology to enhance personalized learning experiences for greater, more widespread access to education and training.

For example, the latest versions of large language models allow anyone to have natural-language conversations with the model without having to type into a chat interface or give hyper-specific commands as we currently do with tools like Siri or Alexa.

Furthermore, using AI technology, a single lesson or piece of content could be translated into any number of languages and contexts, opening the doors for just about anyone to learn.

Videos could not only be auto-dubbed into various languages but also customized to regional colloquialisms, making the content more personalized to each viewer. There is even potential for these tools to add sign language to videos, making them more accessible to many deaf people than is accomplished by simply inserting subtitles.

However, it’s important to consider whether using AI tools to alter an instructor’s speech, voice, and even mannerisms risks compromising their ability to create an authentic, human connection with students. As we experiment with these tools, we must exercise caution to ensure that no vital information is lost in the translation process.

With those considerations in mind, though, the level of accessibility AI technology affords is unbounded, as is the sheer volume of rescuers we can create as a result. The most special thing we’ve discovered here at ProTrainings is blowing the roof off of scalability, and AI is the newest iteration capable of taking our scalability to the next level, especially globally.

Improving Training Quality

In addition to on-demand personal “tutoring” and increased accessibility to training materials for students, AI technology also allows us to improve the quality of our educational content in real time.

If many students struggle with a certain test question, for example, AI tools can detect the problem and rewrite the question to be clearer. After all, the goal of this type of education is not to trap students with trick questions or judge their ability to dissect complex language, but to ensure they truly understand and can apply the knowledge and skills they’ve learned.

Finally, AI technology can also facilitate nearly instantaneous updates to content in any language the course has been translated into.

Instead of simply creating new videos to replace the old ones every time new information or techniques are introduced, we’ll also be able to update the original videos with the new content, saving time and preventing the course from becoming outdated.

Anticipating the Future of AI & Online Learning

Keep in mind that many of these applications for AI technology are still in early developmental stages at ProTrainings. While we anticipate translation features to roll out as early as late this year, personal “tutoring” functions will likely not be available until a year or more in the future.

But the benefits of AI-enhanced training will be well worth the wait. As technological advancements enable us to tailor training programs more specifically to individual students, we will also be able to make those programs available to students of even more diverse backgrounds, languages, and abilities.

In the context of CPR training, that means we’ll be able to offer efficient, high-quality education to even more people, resulting in more — and more confident — certified rescuers worldwide.

Providing Access to CPR Training for Everyone

Just as offering online and blended CPR training courses allows us to train exponentially more people than in-person classes can accommodate, AI tools have unmatched potential to make CPR training more effective and accessible than ever before.

Here at ProTrainings, we’ve seen firsthand the positive impact that flexible training options tailored to the individual student can have. We’re committed to equipping as many people as possible to save lives, and emerging developments in AI technology will enable us to do just that on an even larger scale in the very near future.
