This bag should include your pet\u2019s food, medications, bottled water and bedding.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Identify where you and your pet can go should you need to evacuate. Make sure your family or hotels or other places out of the weather danger zone will accept your pet.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cWhen you evacuate, do not leave your pets behind,\u201d he says. \u201cTake them with you. Thoroughly rinse your<br \/>pet with clean water and towel dry.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fending Off Fires<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The smoke from wildfires and house fires can cause toxic chemicals that can trigger respiratory<br \/>issues, making it hard for your pet to breathe. Coats and paws can be burned by hot cinders.<br \/>\u201cTake your pets out for short periods of time and be sure to clean their mouths, noses and fur<br \/>because you don\u2019t want them licking anything off their paws or coats from the smoky air,\u201d says<br \/>Dr. Bailey.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keeping Pets Cool in Hot Weather<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cPets have sweat pores in their noses, but not on their bodies like we do,\u201d says Dr. Bailey. \u201cMake<br \/>sure that the asphalt, concrete or sand at the beach is not too hot for them to walk on ahead of<br \/>time.\u201d<br \/>Recognize the signs of heat exhaustion that can lead to heat stroke: rapid breathing, drooling<br \/>excessively and gums turning pale.<br \/>\u201cGet your pet to air conditioning or in front of a pet-safe fan,\u201d he advises. \u201cYou can apply cool<br \/>compresses on their feet to help draw heat out of their paw pads but never apply ice packs as the<br \/>cold can cause blood vessels to constrict. That can prevent blood from going into vital organs.\u201d<br \/>Do not leave pets inside cars even with the air conditioning running to pick up a few items in a<br \/>store on hot days.<br \/>\u201cModern cars have timers on them and in minutes, the car will turn off,\u201d warns Dr. Bailey.<br \/>\u201cThose cars can heat up to 100 degrees in a matter of minutes.\u201d<br \/>Bottom line: prepare now for a weather disaster to protect you and your pets.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learn More<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You can learn more on ways to keep your cats and dogs safe by visiting<br \/>https:\/\/www.protrainings.com\/courses\/pets.
